A History of Laird Technology Antennas
Centurion Wireless, now a part of Laird Technologies, is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of internal and external antennas for wireless communications (ie: 802.11, wi-fi, GPS, cellular, bluetooth.)
Founded in 1978 by Gary and Susan Kuck who saw the need for durable and high performing portable antennas, Centurion grew to over 1,500 employees at five manufacturing facilities and seven design centers around the globe before being aquired by Laird Technologies.
Centurion Wireless first set the industry standard for quality and innovation of design with its Tuf Duck antenna for the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) market. Over the years, Centurion has brought this industry leadership to new market segments, expanding its product base from LMR antennas and batteries to antenna and power product applications for cellular handsets, data collection devices, wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless local loop, in-building wireless, Satellite Radio, telemetry, telematics and Bluetooth.
Centurion Wireless offers in-house custom design, tooling, mold fitting and tactical automation in the production process to produce antennas and power products to fit any customer-specific need. Their complete vertical integration allows them to control the entire design to manufacturing process, delivering an extremely fast speed to market time. The company has also developed cutting edge engineering and design techniques, including its two-shot molding process for antenna manufacturing.
Centurion made several strategic acquisitions to expand their product lines, manufacturing capabilities and customer base. In November of 2002, Centurion acquired a division of Swedish based Allgon AB that designs and manufacturers antennas for mobile phones and communication devices, which was quickly re-named AMC Centurion. The acquisitions of Xertex Technologies and Rangestar at the turn of the century were also key in expanding Centurion's presence in the in-building, wireless device and telematics antenna segments.
In August of 2004, Centurion Wireless was aquired by Laird Technologies, and all information on the company and it’s products can now be found at www.lairdtech.com. The company boasts the most comprehensive line-up of wireless antennas in the industry, including the ever-popular: BlackChip, BlueChip, PIFA, D-Puck, NanoBlade, NanoBlue, Revie, ReviePro, and NanoAnt as well as a complete offering of “Tuf Duck” rubber Dipole external antennas.
The product line is represented around the world by independent sales representatives, and the distribution is currently supported by ARCADIAN INC. with offices in the USA and Hong Kong.
